Client Request
In 2017 the Old Abattoir (il-Biċċerija l-Antika) in Valletta undertook a renovation to make place for what is today known as the ‘Valletta Design Cluster’ – a community space for cultural and creative practice.
The client requested to monitor the operation of all building services, throughout the renovated building. The building services, which they needed to monitor and control included equipment such as air conditioning, ventilation, and lighting systems.

Solution
BMS - Building Management System
AIS Technology has extensive experience interfacing with heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, lighting, generators, firefighting, fire alarm, and electrical and water metering equipment.
AIS delivered a custom-built Building Management Systems (BMS) to assist the client with their desire to monitor all building operations. The web-based supervisory software makes it easy for staff to monitor and control the equipment within the building.
The BMS monitors a range of equipment installed throughout the building, including:
Fire, smoke detection, and alarms
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
Lighting
Motion detectors, CCTV, security, and access control
ICT systems
Lifts
Smart meters
The software in our BMS systems has an in-built energy analysis tool, which together with plant alarms, facilitated the maintenance and reporting of all equipment. This resulted in an energy-saving solution through the control of air conditioning, ventilation, and lighting systems.
The web-based software allows facility managers to keep track of their building in real-time, from the comfort of their office. The BMS system is now actively maintained by the Support team at AIS Technology, through a Service Level Agreement to cater to preventive and breakdown support.
Benefits
The Building Management System (BMS) was designed to combat climate change by reducing energy wastage, increasing comfort, and saving money. Through the installation of our BMS, the renovated building now benefits from using less energy.
Over and above minimising energy costs, staff can easily monitor the status of all equipment within the building giving them full control of their building operations.
